OG returning player thoughts and comments

I used to play the original Tribes non-stop (NHOP servers a lot), and many others. Was an unhealthy addiction. I played some of the other games, but the original mods on Starsiege Tribes were just out of this world for the era and modern games still haven't caught up to the complexity of engineer classes and real base building.

They need to bring these games into a more Palworld type mode or Fortnite with base building (something Tribes pioneered). Instead, this latest installment fells more like trying to be a Quake or some other more sluggish FPS.

Immediately out of the gate I felt like I weighed a million pounds – the super short flight from the jetpack also makes it feel less like Tribes, imo – and it isn't easy to quantify but the entirety of the movement and shooting feels "bulky". I would immediately increase the jetpacks times a billion and make everybody move a lot faster.

In the OG Tribes you would see a big empty space and it was exciting. This feels more like a slog and "oh, I have to go all the way over there?".

The only part of the game this improves is the duels in general as they feel much more impactful and have more weight behind them, but it is such a small improvement for a major negative by ignoring how much more fluid games have become.

I should be able to build an auto laser turret and another current of Vulcan to sit in, with blast walls and force fields deployed all around me and the generator in my sky base.

This is a far cry from that, it is like Great Value brand Tribes… Decades later. Larger games, hate them or love them, might also be an improvement but why can't I fly vehicles with the homies and drop flares and mortars? It just doesn't feel right.

If this was a mobile shooter that was just 'Tribes themed', it would make more sense. I was hoping for improvements on stuff modders figured out people were craving many years ago, rather than a step backwards towards less actual content and functionality in general. The sluggishness of everything is just the cherry on top.

I still might spin through a few CTF games, this isn't horrible, but it isn't what I was wanting after all this time. I wasn't even disappointed in T2, it kept many of the core Tribes elements intact. Why couldn't this have at least done that? It feels more like Counterstrike or something overall. The bases don't really feel like bases.

I want Broadside.
