PSA: Tribes 3 weapon stats are misleading

I was playing around in the Shooting Range training mode, and I noticed some things:

  • Despite the medium class Thumper claiming to do 700 damage, direct hits actually do 980. This is more than even a direct hit from a Heavy Spinfusor, which is 912!
  • The Thumper also has better splash damage than the medium spinfusor, and basically no projectile drop, so the only real downside vs the spinfusor is slightly higher reload time.
  • The bullet based weapons have damage falloff, so they do less damage from farther away. The falloff rate appears different per weapon, with the Sparrow Pistol seeming to have the most rapid falloff. There does appear to be a minimum damage amount however.
  • The bullet based weapons are not hitscan, so you have to account for travel time. This may be obvious to other people, but I wasn't sure at first if I was missing due to bad aim or lag.
